Inspire

At times, inspiration comes from big things, small things, the unusual, the mundane, the extraordinary, or the ordinary. Sometimes you seek it, and at times it seeks you. Either way, when it hits you know it!

Beautiful Elements

I strongly believe that a room should not only tell a story of it's owner, but having stand out pieces that make you stop every once in a while to admire makes life a lot more interesting. I like interiors with a quirky detail that make you smile, or an unexpected piece that instantly captures you. I saw these rooms, and they each had something interesting that makes you want to linger a little bit longer, or come back for just one more inspection.

So much to love in this room for me, from the neutral background with the pastel accent pillows, and the combination of textures. I like the visual texture of the chair and throw, paired with the very gorgeous metallic/mirror coffee table, and side table. I like too that they used round tables and ottoman with the very linear sofa and wall panels.

The sweetness and feminity of this room is what draws me in.

It's all about the hand…(on a side note, anyone know where you can get this), the antiqued cases and the cute little frog handle perched on top.
I like that in all the spaces all the little details are functional, but still visually pleasing.

How is everyones' new year going so far? Did you make a resolution for this year? I did even though in the past, I always dismissed it as cliche. But you think about, its a nice time to make a commitment to make sensible changes to move your life in the direction that you'd like. Mine are all nice and easy, just working on being the best me, without putting too much pressure on myself.

Have a lovely day good people!

Sophisticated House Tour

This home oozes sophistication...it's even a bit sexy. This is the home of Anna Gillar, a Swedish Interior Designer and Stylist. High and low pieces are cleverly and effortlessly combined, it's hard to tell what is what. You can really sense that the home was designed with pieces that the home owner loved, rather than what is trendy. I've probably said it a hundred times, so I'll say it for the hundredth and one time, designing with things you love rather than what is trendy/price tag always triumphs. You can't help but be drawn to it, because it is that owners truth, and like it or not you can't help but have an emotive reaction to it.

So much to love in this room, from the whitewashed herringbone floors, white walls and the extra tall french doors and windows, and the gold/brass accents. It is stunning - a beautiful mix of glam and rustic!

I want that antique floor mirror! I read that the owner saw it at a French antique market, and she was instantly head over heels and without figuring out how to get home (from France to Sweden) frantically haggled and got the piece. I can so see myself doing the exact same thing.

I have to say I can't remember seeing a bed made this way and I quite like it. I like the restrain in design in the bedroom. This bed and the desk are both from Ikea. I just love seeing well designed spaces that mix low and high end, because it shows that you don't necessarily need a fat wallet to have a stylish space. All you need is creativity and the commitment to follow through!

Happy Monday!

I came across this beautiful house tour on Residence magazine and apart from its obvious beauty, what I really love about it, is the fact that it feels like a real home. It love the open shelves in the kitchen with the not so perfect arrangement. The pops of colors is brilliant - this is the best of form and function coming together. My favorite though has to be that dining room. The art work absolutely commands attention, oh and the that pendant too...I should just say I love it all!

A happy Monday to you all! :)

Photography - Katya de Grunwald

Are you up for a bit of a trip? Lets take one shall we. Looking at these photos of Katya de Grunwald I am transported to a dreamy beautiful place. There is a lightness to these photos, like a floating feather.
It's a very emotive response they illicit that is hard for me to put into words. As a visual and emotional person, I love it when art of any kind gives me an emotional response.

Katya de Grunwald's work has been featured in top publications such as; Elle Decoration, Red, Martha Stewart Living, House and Garden. I have to admit that I recently found out about her work, but I'm so glad I did.

Photography: Birgitta Wolfgang Drejer

I can feel the end of summer lurking in the corner, and I have to say its bitter sweet. I can tell that summer is coming to an end not only because the days are getting shorter, and the sighting of the random browning of leaves. But I also find my nesting instincts kicking in, I am already thinking about bringing in cozy knitted blankets, and cuddling up with a nice cup of tea after a soul comforting dinner. For me, as a true cancer sign for who everything revolves around the home.  I love welcoming fall as much as I hate saying goodbye to summer.

I know summer is still here and I intend to fully enjoy the last days of it, however these beautiful moody photos by Birgitta Wolfgang Drejer invoke the cozy autumn night for me. There is a rawness to her photos that I am absolutely drawn to.

How are you spending the last days of your summer?

Monday Cheer!

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a lovely and energizing weekend! Ready for the week? If not I have some images to spring you into this week, and if you are all ready for it, well, then, this is just extra fuel in your tank. I had to share this beautiful, light filled home. It has the right amount of fun and classic pieces.

This Josef Frank fabric is utterly delightful (in my lamest British accent). I truly love it though, I like how it is paired with the gorgeous red bed, and everything else is left neutral.

That buffet is captivating, I can imagine it starting many a conversation. The pop of yellow from the dining chairs is gorgeous, and a great complement to the buffet.

I like the subtle color coordination arrangement of the files and books. It's nice having that lower shelving too, an easy way to access your things.

I saw this bird cage lamp a while back while working on a school project, and I have been lusting after it ever since. I like the use of it in this space, brings a playfulness to this room with all the classic materials.

Another beautiful white kitchen. One of my favorite elements...the grout lines...looks like grey grout, a little thing that makes a substantial impact.  It makes the backsplash stand out in a way that it wouldn't if white were used. A nice technique to implement, who says your grout has to match your tile color!

I hope this was a good jolt to your Monday! Have a very lovely week!

Rose and Grey

Oh my! Have I racked up another extensive lust list. Rose and Grey is a British store with a beautiful collection of interior pieces. The store owned by the couple Guy and Lyndsey Goodger, were inspired to set up shop by their passion of interiors and interior design. You can tell that the collection is carefully curated. The pieces are items that caught their eyes from their travels abroad and home.

I'll take that pink vintage luggage please! I like that a vintage piece is given a modern facelift while still staying true to the original design.

So this is really cool, a bed spring used to clip up prints with clothspin.

Union Jack rug, all I can say #olympics. :) Anybody else out there as obsessed with the olympics as I am? I have been glued to the swimming and gymnastics.

I am slightly obsessed with these wall stickers that you can write on with chalk. Especially loving the world map one.

I find myself always attracted to shops that were collected purely based on what the owners love as opposed to what "will sell." It makes the collection feel very personal, and you can sense it even if it's in virtual space.

See anything you like? For more eye candy, check out the site here.

Happy Friday all!!!

Fantastical Bathrooms

I have to admit when it comes to bathrooms, I'm usually a white kinda girl. I like a clean white and simple palette, with very clean and streamlined finishes. It is in powder rooms that I like to go crazy. I like a powder room to feel like a jewel box. Heavily patterned walls and gilded or painted mirrors.
This bathroom by the interior firm Maison Inc, made me giddy - the design geek in me came out in full force. :)

This beautiful wallpaper (can't remember the source) I remember seeing it in different colors. There is a lemony yellow that is so gorgeous that would work in so many rooms in a home. This bathroom sent me into the rabbit hole of lovely bathrooms.

Okay these definitely are very girly and flowery....so of course me likee. I can see giving a guest room this type of a feeling, or in my dream cottage home. I like the soft palette and the playfulness about them.
I like the antiqued hand mirrors hung on the wall in the picture above. I can easily see taking aspects of the third picture with that painted mirror and incorporating it into a girl's bathroom.

These two have an old world charm with a few surprise details. Check out the pink painted file cabinet - now that is brilliant.

One of my dream destinations is Greece, specifically Santorini, with all those white washed houses and blue roofs. This reminded me of that. Lately, to put it mildly I have been obsessing about Santorini, so you can imagine my delight when I saw this. So beautiful, so dreamy!

White and natural wood always works in my opinion, and in this bathroom it is no different. I really like the wood beams and that window.

How about that view? :)

What is your bathroom style? What will your ideal bathroom look like? You can see that I like a bit of everything, but I think there is a commonality among all the bathrooms. There is a feminine vibe, clean lines, and most of all an air of indulgence, just what a bath should be!

Have a beautiful Friday everybody!
