Light & Airy

Happy Monday! I hope it's an easy Monday and a lovely week for all of you. I thought to get us started, we shall look at a beautiful home, designed with natural wood, a light color palette, with pops of color and high contrast. I am so behind on homeworks, but I figure maybe getting this out there, I'll have no choice but to get back to it. I'll keep you posted on that. :-)

I am seriously crushing on that mint cabinet. Check out those chunky legs too!

I wish you all a beautiful week!

Design Details

Tonight, while making dinner, I stood over the kitchen sink after a deep breath, and realized that it was only Tuesday! It feels like it should be Thursday already. Yesterday, I got some bad news about something I was expecting to go one way, and it went the other - talk about a bad way to start a Monday. I've been bummed out since, even though I keep reminding myself something better must be in store then.I came across this beautiful home that got me all perked up. We could all use a burst of color in these cold months of winter, no? This gorgeous Georgian home is bursting with personality, and all the right details.

The art work in this guest room is captivating, talk about a conversation piece. I need to know where one can find it, even if the cost is an arm and a leg.

I love the use of the white and yellow tiles to add interest to the bathroom. It is so simple, yet makes an unforgettable statement.

What stands out to you? How is your week going? I hope you have a great Wednesday!

New - Le Souk

It is no secret that I love North African and Persian design. The new collection at Le Souk just strengthens that love. The pieces have that handmade (most or all are handmade) quality that I love, the vivid and intricate design that are expected when you say North African design, and easy casual vibe all wrapped up to make up gorgeous furniture and decor pieces.

That chandelier reminds me of the famous Marjorie Skouras chandeliers. I like the choice of color, gives it and almost etheral feel.  Another cool thing about the light is that it's made of wood. The throws made in Tunisia are gorgeous! They are hand woven using traditional techniques. I would love to lay my hands on one for this Fall.

What do you guys think? What have you seen out there that you are crushing on? Do share please.

Have a lovely day!!!

Tracy Reese House Tour

Who doesn't love a Tracy Reese dress? Her dresses are always so feminine, elegant and I have been a fan for a while now. Naturally I was quite curious to see the space of this talented lady. Her home in upstate New York featured in County Living is a quintessential country home. It is absolutely charming! So much to love in this house tour. There are so many interesting elements present and a nice mix of high/low design.

I love this stair runner and the kicker, it is a DIY project!  She individually cut each piece, and attached them with velcro! This makes it easy to remove for clean ups - beautiful and practical.

Those gorgeous wood planks with the sweet pink on the walls is perfection. I like how she mixes rustic, feminine, and the traditional ethnic prints. She got this place in upstate New York after years of living in the city and wanting/needing a quiet space for a getaway from the fast pace of the city. I can see this place serving that purpose to a T.

Kitty cat room that's what the designer calls this space. Need I say more :-). Adorable!

The black wall is perhaps my favorite design element in this home. It is so unexpected, but so beautiful! It serves as a great anchor for all her beautiful pieces with the colors and prints. I think using white or some neutral or even pastel might have been an obvious choice especially for a country home, but choosing this daring color really paid off. It also makes the room feel very cozy. Another thing I really like is the pairing of this gorgeous antique armoire with the crisp white porcelain.

See anything you like?

Vintage Chic Penthouse

I love mixing design styles, and I love it even more when I see styles that aren't supposed to work, but they do so well. Vintage Modern almost sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it? :)
This sleek New York City penthouse with its clean lines and minimal design incorporates some vintage pieces. Warmth is brought in by the rich brown colors of the furniture, art, and accessories.

Thoughts? What do you think of this mix? I know it's nothing new, but it's one of the most extreme mix of modern and vintage I've seen in a while. I love too that its not disguised, the modern design is able to stand on it's own just like the vintage pieces do, but it still looks cohesive.

Heart Home Magazine

One of my favorite ways to decompress after a long day is to browse design sites with beautiful inspiring images. Heart Home magazine was exactly what I needed after a today. Their spring issue is filled with gorgeous spaces that are well designed, but not overly so. They all feel very homey to me.

There is something about each of these spaces that appeals to me, and the common thread here is that they all have a very striking focal point, or interesting details. The first image with that gorgeous photo of the woman is so captivating! See anything you like? Which one and why?

Maximalism - Sig Bergaman

It must be a happy coincidence that I found the eye popping house of Brazilian designer Sig Bergaman in the current issue of Architectural Digest. I was in the waiting area of my daughter's ballet rehearsal when I saw the current AD issue. I was immediately captivated when I saw Sig Bergaman's house. It was full of color, art, texture all kinds of visual interest.

I fall somewhere in the happy middle of maximalism and minimalism. Like Goldilocks I like things just right :-). However, I can't help but be impressed and a bit envious when I see someone pull off maximalism perfectly. That's when you see that design is innate, and should come from within, if it feels right for you, it will read that way to the world.

The African girl in me was immediately drawn to the Louis XV chairs upholstered in the Ghanaian textile. What a great juxtaposition, beautifully bringing two unlikely worlds together.

This bedroom is a happy explosion of patterns. Love that suzanni blanket!

What I love about this closet is the fact that it's the only contemporary space, and compared to the rest of the house minimal, yet you can't help but notice all the colors from the shoes and cloths.

This picture is my absolute favorite from the whole house. I love that extra large art on the wall, with the hand chair placed next to it. I think this entry perfectly sets the tone for this home. Happy Monday all! I hope this home got you energized and ready to take on this week! :-)

Mint & Aqua Kitchen

My love affair with the color mint continues, and how can it not after seeing it used so well like it is in the kitchen I'm about to show you.

I love a big kitchen and this one is right up my alley. For my personal taste I like everything white in a kitchen from the walls to the backsplash and cupboards, with some warm wood tone furniture pieces. In my dream kitchen my floors will be hand made morrocan tiles, huge windows looking out to a gorgeous garden with a view of the ocean....ahhh I can so see it.

But back to this fab kitchen, I love the mix of aqua and mint, with the white walls and beams. So gorgeous and effective.

I have a soft spot for a kitchen with a nice seating area, and this one's is so beautiful and cozy. I hope you enjoyed this space as much as I did.
